In this section: JSE. FSB. FPI. SAIFM. PAIA.

JSE & FSB

The South African investment landscape provides for two main groups of investment intermediaries, one group being JSE members regulated by the JSE, the other being financial services providers, such as investment managers, regulated by the Financial Services Board (FSB).

In certain instances, JSE members can also operate as FSB authorised and regulated financial services providers, in which case they comply with both the exchange and the FSB’s licensing requirements. This would typically occur where the JSE member is providing investment services in financial products not regulated by the JSE, such as unlisted shares. Read more.

Authorised FSP

Courtney Capital is licensed as a financial services provider in terms of section 8 of the FAIS act nr 37 of 2002. We have a Category 2 license and are authorised to provide advisory, intermediary & discretionary services in respect of shares, certificates, warrants, derivatives, money market, and other instruments. View the our FSP certificate.

Financial Planning Institute

In order to comply with the FSB requirements, our Portfolio Managers had to write the RE exams, for representatives, key individuals and hedge funds. These are known as RE1, RE5 & RE3. This is done through the Financial Planning Institute of South Africa. Visit the FPI website at http://www.fpi.co.za/.

SA Institute for Financial Markets

Our Portfolio Managers are JSE and Safex registered traders. The exams are known as the RPE’s, for Registered Persons Examinations. Modules include introduction, regulations, equities, derivatives, bonds, money market, forex and agricultural instruments. The first five are compulsory. And there is also a JSE traders exam. These are all done through the SAIFM, http://www.saifm.co.za/.

PAIA Manual

The Promotion of Access to Information Act stipulates that public and private companies must make available a manual to the public in order to help facilitate the ease of access to information. Here is ours:
