Looking at the 5 year chart below, the JSE Top 40 has already come off almost 9% from previous highs and we might see a bit of a bounce here – however longer term support is closer to the 40,000 level. Chart from Bloomberg.

SAB was up over 12% at midday on speculation that it is a takeover target for Inbev.  Anglogold has also decided to shelve it’s restructuring plan after resistance from some large shareholders.

Santam issued a trading statement that indicates the company expects the increase in HEPS to be between 115% – 125% as a result of improved underwriting and investment results.  Trading currently 5% higher.
