The Top 40 fell sharply (-1.9%) with broad-based selling. The SARB left the repo rate unchanged but the focus was on poor economic data out of China and the pressure it put on commodity shares, Amplats fell 5.6%, AngloGold fell 4.9%. Retailers were also under pressure, Woolies lost 3.4%. The US markets ended at record highs last night, so the JSE is up 1% this morning.
